- skills-based rather than text-based
- best for students' varied learning styles and needs in our mixed-ability 9th grade classrooms
- supportive of our curriculum vertical alignment goals
As we work through this transition and talk about the various best teaching practices for grammar instruction that we can use in our classrooms, please know that our end goals are:
- Work through the philosophical shift from text-driven instruction to skill-driven instruction, and how this comes to fruition in the classroom
- Development of a set of grammar objectives that will help students develop as writers
- Creation of end assessments that measure the range of grammar objectives set forth and which we can use for backwards design of our individualized grammar approach.
We would also like to get into these practical topics:
- Discussion of how this would alter our grade book setup and grading procedures surrounding grammar instruction.
- Gathering input about the best way to share, adapt, and continue to evolve these newly-developed resources
Please bring the 10 things Every Writer Should Know text (if this was your book study text), and any other resources you feel would be helpful for all of us to reference as we proceed.
Please take note that you should tell your English 9 courses to report to the WEST CAFETERIA for the counselors' presentation of course selections during their scheduled English class time.
Looking forward to working together as a team on this!
